John Wells (1700-1746) was born in Hadley, Massachusetts. His parents were Ebenezer and Mary (Waite) Wells. The sixth of seven children, John and his brothers would all settle in Deerfield. John lived in what was known as the Green River section of Deerfield, Massachusetts. He was a military man, serving as a colonel during Father Rasle's War (also known as Dummer's War, Grey Lock's War 1722-1725), a series of bloody conflicts fought between the Abenaki and English colonists. John married Sarah Allen of Windsor, Connecticut, in 1729; the couple had eight children. John Wells died in 1746, aged 46. (George Sheldon, History of Deerfield (Greenfield, MA: PVMA, 1896), Vol. II, 357-59.)
In 1737, "Titus Servant to John Wells was Baptised upon his Masters Account." (Records of the First Church of Deerfield, Massachusetts.)
